Silly question probably !! Is there any patch or something that will make a Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro ( older great joystick ) work with Windows XP ??
Thanks ,
Jamie

I would try M$ to see if you can find a driver for it that will work with xp. I am currently using it on windows me. The other system has XP but does not have a game port. If I am not mistaken the sidewinder must have a game port

My old M$ SW Pro is fitted with a gameport plug but a USB adaptor lead was included with it that works fine. I've used "old faithful" on 3 different machines over the last few years & it will work on either input. Like Gary, I'm on WinMe but I assume it's also compatible with XP.

Try a site named "major geeks" they have quite a good handle on things.

You will find that microsoft no longer supports their joystick range ........ so try some of the major download sites for software.

The Sidewinder should work if you just plug it in and boot up. XP should recognise it and bring up the matter. Failing that go to add/remove hardware and add it manually.

Thanks everybody , but afraid it is not gonna work . I went to Add/Remove and it does not show on the list even though connected . When I place the CD in the drive , it says " Setup can't install SideWinder Game Controller Software on your current operating system " .
I just had a new hard drive installed and decided to go to XP . Seems strange it would not work with this OS .
Thanks ,
Jamie

...funny old do... :o...!
All my game controllers, old and new, game port and USB, automatically detect in good-old Win '98 SE.... ;D...!
...and appear on the System > Game controllers menu!
Inseting the provided joystick CD, just gives me extra facilities as well...!
Cheers all... ;D...!

Well well ! Guess I am too new at his computer stuff . I removed my SideWinder Precision Pro from the gameport and used the USB adapter and then XP recognized it and did all of the rest by itself . Works beautifully !
Thanks everybody .
