*#@!@&*! panels/gauges

Postby Wayfarer » Thu Jul 01, 2004 6:26 pm

What is the deal??? Can't somebody develope user friendly panels/gauges or at least a user friendly program for installing them? I've got e special folder called "The Boneyard" that is full of great aircraft that I can't fly!

Wayfarer try reading this simple step-by-step tutorial, it should help solve all your woes http://www.simviation.com/acinstall.htm

All downloads vary but installing a panel should not be difficult. If an aircraft has its own panel any extra 3rd party gauges should be included in the download. These will probably be in a folder (or zipfile) named Gauges or similar. To install them, open this folder & click Edit/Select All. Then paste the complete contents into the FS2002\Gauges folder. Don't overwrite existing files/folders if prompted. There are various different gauge formats these days (some gauges look just like zipfiles) so this is the best method.

If you still have problems give me an example. Tell me the file name & the exact page it's posted on. I can then download it & check it out for you. No files over 10 Mb please.

PS. Ignore all instructions/advice to unzip/extract zipfiles direct to FS2002. This is probably the most common cause of all installation problems.

Thanx guys. At this point I'll try almost anything. Maybe this old dog can learn a few new tricks. I'll post a note here to let you know how I'm doing.

You can edit panels with (free) cfgEdit (cfgedit.com).  It's getting a little dated but still works well.  It will tell you if your panels are missing any gauges.

I don't know how experienced Wayfarer is so I'll assume he's not used to installing aircraft. Please forgive me if this is too basic.

Using CfgEdit requires at least a basic knowledge of panel design & I think it would just complicate matters at this stage. I suspect the problem lies with not installing the gauges properly.

In the old days when all gauges were in GAU format it was easy. This is a tad more difficult to explain now. To illustrate my point the files & folder in this shot are all 3rd party gauges. Unless you recognise them as such & paste them into FS2002\Gauges they cannot display.

Oops. I'm getting my sims confused. I have both fs2002 & fs2004.

I'm not offended Hagar. I'm still quite new to this.

Example;
             North American XB-70 for fs2002/fs2004.
Aircraft works fine in fs2002 but no gauges in fs2004.
I did a side by side comparison of all XB-70 files/folders. Everything is identical. Suggestions?

I'm just off so this will be quick. Providing you installed the gauges & didn't simply paste the XB-70 folder from FS2002 to FS9 the panel might use FS2002 default gauges not included with FS9. I think most of the FS2002 default gauges are included with FS9 so this is unlikely. The FS9 GPS gauge has a different name to the one in 2K2 so this would need changing in Panel.cfg.
