What's the best way to record a movie of your flying in FS2002 whilst maintaining a smooth frame rate?

As far as I can see, the Recording options in the game itself only allow a maximum frame rate of 4fps, which is obviously...terrible.  ::)

So is there anything else out there that does the job any better? I've tried programs like Camtasia Studio and Snagit, but they just seem to make the system slow down even further.  ???

I've seen some great videos on the web that other people have recorded, but I can't work out how it's done.

I've tried pointing my digital camera at the screen (on a tripod) and recording it that way, but you get some large grey bands across the screen due to the difference in refresh rates between cam and monitor.

So what now?? Due I have to buy a TV card with Video out?  :'(

That may be one way. My card has a tv out plug but i have never used it. I also have heard about a program called active camera but do not know much about it

There is some software called "Fraps" but you really need a decent machine to record and fly at the same time.

ActiceCamera really doesn't do much but toy with your view settings.  Though the result is impressive, it won't do much for you in the way of recording.

Fraps is a decent choice, but as Dave said, you've gotta have a slightly higher end machine for it to produce the results you're looking for.

The third (and best) option is, if you've got the ability to do so, attach your digital camcorder to your video card and record directly to digital video.  Then you can spit the footage back into your favorite video editing software and edit from there.

I've yet to bother doing this, but I've been told to expect much higher results when I get around to doing so.
