Game Freeze/Hang Just After Starting

I recently bought a new PC with Windows XP Home.

I installed FS2002, and now every time I run it and start flight, the display will hang within a couple of minutes. Usually all the scenery disappears apart from the ground/sea and sky textures.

I've tried this with add-on scenery/planes, and without. I've also tried with and without my 3D Prophet graphics card in (ie with onboard graphics and with graphics card). I have also tried disabling sound.

All had the same outcome.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks
Matt

What version of direct x do you have.
Try running DXDIAG to see if you have any problems in that area. Then make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.
I would try reinstalling directx first. The one you have maybe corrupt.
Make sure you are virus free.
If all elase fails I would unistall & reinstall FS 8)

I've tried reinstalling FS many times. I'll look into the Direct X thing. I got my latest drivers for the video card. But the same thing happens without the video card, which is odd.

I did have a virus recently, but have removed it as far as I am told.

System spec:
AMD 3000+
128MB RAM
80Gb HDD
CD-RW drive
Windows XP Home

cheers

I thought of 1 other thing.
By any chance do you use a firewall or anti virus program.
With only 128mb ram you may be running out of memory.
Shut down any fire wall or antivirus programs that you have running.
You can also try pressing crtl alt delete at the same time open te task manager & end all tasks tha does not have system by it. Ending a system task can make windows unstable.
I would look into getting more memory. The more the better.
