anyone had problems with these? I've installed a/c as instructed, but have no instruments on panel, just black boxes! HELP please!!

Most likley that you haven't put the Gauge files (normally *.gau or *.xml) into your Fs2002/gauges folder, or the designer didn'tinclude them. Check your read me.

having had the same problem and checked a few times to see the gauges are correct, i think something must have been left out

did you fix it Craig? if so how?

sadly not but i am gonna have a play with it see what i can find. try emailing the author aswell he may know

Hagar, it's on FS2002 Military page 53 (still the latest at time of post).

The problem is I tried to be clever and keep the gauges tidy by placing them in their own folder inside the gauges folder. Then didn't convey this very well in the instructions (it would appear), people have simply be doing what is normally done with the guages.

There is another problem which may affect some people and that is the panel may cause FS2002 Std (not sure about Pro) to crash. I'm am baffled as to why this is as it works on my main PC's copy (but then I did constuct it there), but not on another PC that I loaded std to test it on. There are no missing gauges that I can tell (I even copied the entire gauges folder from the working copy to the non working one and it made no difference). Its got me beat and I'm the author
Any ideas would be appriciated.

Thanks Lonewolf. From what you're saying I assume this is your work. In that case I understand you have to paste the complete gauges folder into FS2002\Gauges - not the individual gauges in the usual way. This method is quite a good idea - providing it's made clear in the installation instructions & that users read & follow those instructions.

Now I know which file this is I can download it & check it out myself. I'll report back later.

It can cause 2K2 pro to crash too unfortunately  :'(

OK. I finally have the file & checked it out in FS2002 Pro. All I can say is that it works fine for me. Theres no reason that I can see that it wouldn't work just as well in the Standard version. I must also say that I'm impressed. Well done Lonewolf.

However, I think the problems people are reporting are caused by the unconventional method of configuring the files. You have no need to take any notice of my suggestions but if I was doing this it would be somewhat differently. I hope you don't mind a few tips for future reference.

First, I see no benefit to including zipfiles within zipfiles. This doesn't make the file size smaller but quite often the reverse. I dislike instructions to extract zipfiles direct to the sim & advise people to ignore them. I prefer to install files manually so I know exactly what's going where if I run into problems. This is how I installed the JSF to my own system.

On extracting X35B_Pt1.zip to my FS Downloads folder I found 4 extra zipfiles named AIRCRAFT.zip, EFFECTS.zip, GAUGES-B.zip & SOUND.zip. On extracting these to the X35B_Pt1 folder this is what we have.



Installing the aircraft itself is straightforward. Paste the X-35B folder into FS2002\Aircraft.
Paste the files from the EFFECTS folder into FS2002\Effects & all files from the SOUND folder into FS2002\SOUND.
Installing the gauges seems to be the awkward part & this took me a while to figure out. Open the GAUGES subfolder within the GAUGES-B folder & paste the complete X-35 folder into FS2002\GAUGES.

I hope this is some help. Please try it & tell me if it works for you. I'm sure you'll find it worth the effort.

Firstly. Thanks Hagar for the encouragement.  This was a joint project with Claudio Mussner and a lot of praise should go his way.

Secondly. People on this forum have been doing this (building planes n stuff) far longer and more succsessful than I. So any advice, tips or suggestions would  and will be greatly recieved.

Finally. The last two posts say it all. I have no idea why the X-35B will work on some installations but not on others. At first I thought it might have been the custom gauges but I dissproved that when I loaded it in to a second PC I have (on which it failed) and removed all the custom gauges and it still wouldn't work. Then I wondered if it was just FS2002 standard that was the problem (odd because that is what I have on the PC I used for construction and testing). But I have had mail from people who use Pro and are having the same problems. It has to do with the panel 'cos it works without it. But I can't find the problem as removing each gauge individually makes no difference.
It has me stumped (and I built the damn thing)!!!

Any ideas?

Sorry guys. I have no idea why you should be having problems. As it works fine for me I can only assume that providing you installed it correctly there is some sort of conflict with your system or video card. This happened once with one of my own aircraft. It was a very simple design with basic 8 bit BMP textures but some of my beta testers had similar problems with CFS2 crashing to desktop. We never resolved the problem which is the reason I didn't post it.

I don't like unexplained bugs & would like to resolve this one if only to satisfy my own curiosity. If you want to persevere with the JSF make sure you installed it correctly.

The 13 WAV files from the SOUND folder to FS2002\SOUND.

If you already did that try aliasing the panel to another aircraft. This will take the panel & gauges out of the equation. Do the same with the sound if that makes no difference. By a logical process of elimination this would leave us with the 3D model itself.

PS. Lonewolf. We posted together & I answered before seeing your comments. From what you're saying the conflict might be with the new gauges. I had a CTD on trying it in FS9. This was caused by X35_gps2.gau. It works fine after removing this gauge. I suggest this might be the best place to look.

PPS. I tried the CFG tweak you posted for FS9 but the jet exhaust animation still doesn't seem to work properly. This works fine in FS2002.

I just had a thought. Note the X-35B has subfolder names like model.X-35B instead of the more conventional Model. I don't see why this is necessary although it shouldn't cause a CTD. You could try renaming the folders using the standard Model, Panel, Sound & Texture folder names to see if that makes any difference. Aircraft.cfg will need editing accordingly to recognise them. For example:
