Changing the starting point in add-on airport

Postby BomberGirl » Thu Apr 01, 2004 8:31 pm

Hi Guys,

Guess who again? I'll be honest, FS2K2 is starting to get REALLY frustrating.  Playing it unmodified, it works just fine. But when you want to change something, then it gets frustrating.

I have no idea of which forum this should be in,  so I'll post it here, knowing that it'll get seen.

Todays question is this: How do you change the starting position for your plane in an add-on airport? I've tried AFCAD, but I have no idea of which file to try and open. (I'm trying to move my start point in Dennis Wagoner's Edwards AFB v1.01
http://wagsterstuff.com/ )

This is about the BEST airport that I've ever seen. He's even got a crane loading the shuttle onto the 747!

But, the starting point has you sitting right at the base of the tower. I tryed the slew command s to move over a bit, but as soon as I turn the slew off again, my AN-225 shoots off like a Tomcat off a catapult!

The Edwards download has several .BGL files and textures. Whe I try to open one of the .BGL's in AFCAD, I get a message saying the selected file is not in recognised AFD format.

So, I'd either like a way to open the new Edwards in AFCAD to change the start point, or a way to replace the defualt Edwards AFB in FS2K2 so that it'll show up in the AFCAD airport list and then hopefully be editable.

I know that I'm starting to be a pain, but I just like to have things my own unique way.

   Thanks again everyone. Take Care.

Are you using the dialog box, bottom left, to change your start point?

If you only get the one start point there apart from the runways then it may be that you need another AFCAD file other than the one supplied with the addon. You can search for them on here or on avsim.
Or maybe theres a solution that I havent thought of.

good luck ...

Bomber girl:
AFCAD is the tool to use here, after you start afcad click on open airport it should then gather all of your airports you have and should list them by area EX. ( to find the atlanta airport first click on the unitedstates then on georiga then on atalanta(KATL)) then click ok, this will bring up the atl air port then go to the view icon and click on show starting points. This will show airplanes at the start of each runway all you have to do is click on the circle it should turn brown and you should see a brown dot this dot represents which way the plane is facing.
To move the plane click on the circle and drag it to where you want it then click on the dot to point it in the right direction. After you make all of the changes just save and thats it. You have to be carefull not to drag the runway or taxy way if you move something that you did not want to move use the undo arrow to put it back. Do not try to put it back yourself as you might not get it lined up right.
I have done this for ATLANTA,MIAMI and several other air ports. You do not need an afcad file first. Doing this will make one for that airport.

GUYS, I LOVE YOU!!!

It still took a bit of playing around, but thanks to the suggestions that I got, the New Edwards has now replaced the default Edwards, and I've got my own personal parking spot as well!

Thanks guys, I owe you one!

   Take Care.
