Cache & FPS

Postby Roberto » Fri Mar 26, 2004 9:17 am

I'd just like to know something about CACHE. It's in the Scenery library section. My Q's:
1. What is cache and what difference does it make having it on or off.
2. What about the cache setting which is 100 by default. Would changing this possibly help with FPS, and if so in what direction.

Are there any tipsters to getting better FPS without changing the scenery settings too much. I see that changing the general prefeferences for scenery (the first tab on the left in Settings>Display) doesen't make much difference. I don't want to turn off MIP MAPPING.

I would suggest you leave cache on as what this does is to store scenry files here for quick access to them. I would also not change the 100 setting unless you have a huge hard drive. Make sure you check clear cache on exit so the file does not become huge. Also have you done a full install so that you do not nead any disk to fly with. If not that would be a major improvement.
As far as settings go do you have a 3D card installed on your system if not you will have a problem with FPS rates. I know that it is not on the minumum req. list. But without one your frame rates are going to be slow esp. if you use any weather at all
