Hellicopters

I am having problems trying to fly the hellicopters. I have changed the realizm to easy and taken all of the null zones out of my Microsoft sidewinder forced feedback stick and increased the sensitivity to max. It is almost impossible to control especially in a hover. It seems like there is still too much slop in the stick. I have flown the real jet ranger and I have had high time hellicopter pilots try my FS and they have the same problem as me. Anybody got any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Hi, pickup
Haven't tried this on copters but the fix seems tailor made for you. Go to hoversafe@shaw.ca and select flying school. You'll see a couple of fixes for sensitive controls; which worked for me in FS2k2 on fixed-wing a/c, particularly the addition of the extra line in the program.

Hi Pickup

I am assuming your problem is control during hover - because you haven't got the "seat of your pants" sensation, essential for hover, I find I have to view the copter from outside with shadow on - thus you can see what she is doing and put the correct inputs in to couteract going out of control, then to keep the semi realism, I press and hold the "0 / Ins" button on the number keypad to get the quick "in view", albeit the 2D panel screen.

Hope this helps

I think...I've just seen an update for the Bell 206 airfile on another site ... supposedly makes it easier to fly ... Try searching the Misc files in fsnordic.com

Just remember that it takes a LOT of practice to master flying helos ;)

Here's what I've been able to pick up about the helos over the years...

1.  Throw out everything you know about flying.  It's different in helos.

2.  You've got to use both the throttle and the stick to control the helo.  In the real world, there is the collective and the cyclic.  In F$, you've got throttle and stick.

3.  Use your throttle to control the up/down axis of flight.  Use the stick to control forward/backward.

It takes some practice, and this is just the very basic principle of F$ helo flight, but it can be done.  It took me ages to learn it, but I got it, and I enjoy takin' one out from time to time for a change.  (Especially through the Grand Canyon...KGCN)
