changing .air files

Hi all!
I kinda searched the forum a bit to see if I could find my answer but it seems it would have taken a long time to search through all the posts.

Anyway I was wondering if someone could help me in changing the .air files, so I can fly AI aircraft as regular aircraft. I have downloaded something called AirEd which looks useful but I am unfamiliar with the program.

Would appreciate some help, hopefully this won't require a huge explanation hehe. Even a link will do for a tutorial if it is too much to explain here. Thanks in advance!!

Certainly!

Open the file with AirEd, and you will see a window with a list of sections.  Each one does something different to the aircraft, and there are about a million of 'em!  Haven't actually counted them, though . . . ;)

But the one you want to edit is one that reads "Aircraft Type", which would be a few lines down.  Change the number from 0 to 1, or is it 1 to 0?  I can't remember right now, as I'm not at my home computer.  Just switch it to the one it is not!

Hi Fly guy. Welcome to our forums. About flying the AI aircraft. Well, what the Baron said will make it show up, but not fly. Look to my post http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1072791018 for more help. AirEd is a fantastic thing, well worth learning to use. If you haven't already, try William M Roths site at http://members.dsl-only.net/~eagle/#statement. The best way to learn is just to experinment. There is a good tutorial called the Hitchhickers guide to airfiles. I can't remember where i got it from, i could post it here for you if you want it.  ;)  :D

Just to clarify. The Aircraft Type is section 105 in AirEd.
The value 2 is unflyable (AI Only drone) & 0 is player flyable.
The AI drones will need a panel folder to work properly. The easiest method is to copy the Panel folder from a similar flyable aircraft & paste it into the drone. It should now be selectable from the FS2002/4 menu but might not perform too realistically. The default AI drones are optimised for use as AI traffic & were never intended to be player flyable.
