Repaints

???  So, I'm a real newbe and never worked with repaint textures before. Now, I've downloaded textures for the Am West 757 "Ohio" scheme; I also have a couple of full 757's with their own textures, cfg. files, panels, etc. I also have a "blank texture" 757 file. Question is: how do I get the d/l "Ohio" textures on those other planes, and get them to show up in FS2K2's "Select Aircraft" window?? I'd really like to have the "Ohio" be flyable. Thanks.

Hi & welcome. First make sure the repaints are for the same version of the complete aircraft. There should be a Readme text file included with the textures. If you open it in a text editor this should give full instructions on how to install them. There might also be a separate sample Aircraft.cfg showing the entries to copy/paste into the existing file. CFG files can be opened & edited in Notepad. If you follow the instructions correctly this should add the new version to the selection menu.

Hello and welcome!

As Pete mentioned, editing the Aircraft.cfg file will make the planes show up where you want them to in the aircraft menu.  The key entries to look for are:

ui_manufacturer=
ui_type=
ui_variation=

As far as the textures are concerned, I've had some success with using the "copy and paste" method of transferring textures from one model to another.  I've also used  textures from photographs that I've taken of various aircraft.

My photo editing program has a "select area" or cropping tool along with a "move area" tool which allows me to copy part of an image and place it exactly where I want it on another image.  If you have Photo Shop, I'm sure it has similar features.

One word of caution:  If you decide to use someone else's texture file or a downloaded photo for this purpose, it is important that the newly created textures be for your personal use only, or you may be at risk of violating the copyrights for the materials used!

Good luck! :)
