#9, or the Max/Static Compression Ratio is used in figuring the compression ratio when the aircraft lands, i.e.--how far the gear compresses on landing.  #10 (Damping Ratio) is what you want to adjust.  0.0=Undamped and 1.0=Critically Damped.  This means the lower the number, the less compression.  The typical numbers range from about 0.6 to 0.95.  Just play with it a little and see what you get.
