:-/ Do I need more RAM (etc.) for optimum performance? ......my Dell PC 4500 with pentium 4, 2.0 GHz, 512MB RAM, 64MB GeForce4 MX Graphics card, 40GB ATA-100 7200 RPM(hard drive).....and ( I think) not otherwise overloaded.....Have no particular reason (in my ignorance) to believe that I need more, as the FS seem to be running beautifully.......BUT....some say, the more the better.......What do you think?

Right now, I'm running similar specs without any problems.  But then again, I don't have much add-on scenery.

512 MB RAM should be fine unless you are planning to add a lot of detailed scenery (I think some people like to call it "eye candy.")

(Or "Easter Eggs." ):)

That system should run 2k2 just fine. There are a couple of things you can do to get that little bit extra out of the system.
De-frag the hard disk (I do this at least once a month!), make certain you haven't got any background programs running. If you aren't online then turn off your anti-virus software as this tends to be a terrible memory eater!
You can also setup some virtual RAM on your hard disk for improved performance (but its v.marginal).
Also don't have you AI traffic maxed, this kills frame rates!
