Commercial & Fighter aircraft vs General Aviation?

Postby Fozzer » Sun Aug 24, 2003 6:12 am

Am I the only one, (probably), who only flies GA aircraft and has no interest whatsoever in flying jet propelled, aluminium cigar tubes full of passengers at altitudes of 60,000+ feet above Uncle Bill's lovely scenery?
...or...
fly fighter planes with really big guns and even bigger bombs to devastate the rabbit population down below...?

I've got FS '98, FS 2000 Pro, FS 2002 Pro, and FS 2004, running on my 'puter, and I've NEVER selected, (or wanted to select), anything other than small single-engined GA  prop aircraft or microlights to chuff quietly from airstrip to airstrip, admiring the scenery from around 2.000 feet, (or less)... 8)...!

Am I completely on my own in this regard*, or are there two or three others out there with similar preferencies... ::)...!

Cheers all... ;D...!
Paul.  ....off in my Piper Cub to far-away places. (Well, about 50 miles or so...).... ::)...!
(England, (and California)).

...*(Yes, Fozzer. You are completely on your own in this regard)... ;)...!
LOL...LOL...LOL...!

;) No Fozzer, you aint alone.  I'm 72 and used to fly the old tail draggers and ultralights.  That is all I fly here too.  I have the MSquared Sport and Sprint downloaded that I fly just above the tree tops and also an old Ercoupe that I added a GPS and AP to that I tool around in.  I always loved the feel of flight and the scenery.  The only military I enjoyed was "B-17 Flying Fortress" for the strategy and skill necessary.  Guess we old farts have a different outlook than the new kids on the block.  Use my Email if you want to chat.

You're not alone Fozzer. I never fancied being a bus driver. Wouldn't touch a modern cigar tube (or a helicopter for that matter) with a barge pole. ::)

I enjoy buzzing around in my light vintage types. This is a pleasant reminder of the old days when I flew real aeroplanes like the Tiger Moth with no radio or nav aids. ;)

I also like warbirds (Spitfire, Sea Fury etc), old classic airliners like the D-3 & the occasional jet fighter for a change. The 50s jets are my own favourites. A nice Hawker Hunter T.7 would make my day. :D

The point about FS is that you can make it exactly as you want it. We all have our own preferences & I'm sure each one is different.

Personally, I have always been a fan of airliners, but I see a use for all types of aircraft, like Hagar said, you can make this sim what you want it to be to best suit your interests.
If you don't keep up with my Misadventures website, here is an example of how I utilize all types of aircraft:
I flew a 747-SP into Baghdad, hopped into a Kingair 350 to go siteseeing, then jumped in an F-16 to fire some rockets into the downtown area and before I left, I dropped an A-bomb on the city from a DC-3.
Still no linked images allowed around here Paz! Naughty...

I do most of my flying in small-med GA aircraft, although I do take up an airliner ever once in a while ;D

You are not alone Fozzer.
Love warbirds, and GA. Particularly Beech Twins ;)
I do like helicopters too, and sometimes modern fighters if the model is nice, e.g. the Rafale. Its the carrier landing challenge I enjoy ;D
I sometimes drive a 'bus', but as we all know I like to drive my bus upside down under bridges, or in the case of Concorde do inverted loops around the Golden Gate Bridge to give Fozzer something to look at whilst he is trogging up and down the W.Coast ;D

Ps. Have you tried the new Valmet L-70 Vinka we've got here in 2k2 downloads. You'll love it Paul, amazing model and detail. And a joy to fly ;)

I remember the entire first year I had fs98, all I did was fly the Cessna 182RG around Europe and on cross-country flights in the U.S.A.

Fozz, I too prefer the slow and low. Ever since sub logic on the Apple II and on thru FSII to 2K2, I've preferred to fly Cessnas and such. It's probably due to nostalgia that I have a Tiger Moth (1st solo) Piston Provost and a Twin Pin in my hangar. I really like to fly the C2 Beaver best of all though, remembering my service with the KAF in Nairobi.

Fozzer, GA are the most fun for me to fly.  I used to enjoy the heavies and the odder type of aircraft (V-22, SR-71) but after doing all the tricks you can do in those, they lose their specialness, and then your down to those beautiful little taildraggers and trigears.  For the past month or so, I have been enjoying the rigors of naving around the countryside with just the autopilot and VFR stuff for aids.

One of my favorite tricks these days is just taking off and chasing down AI's, then buzzing them on landing or takeoff.  Great fun!!!

I'm at the other end...I never fly GA aircrafts. They are slow and in my humble opinion nothing I fancy

:)  I only use microlights and ultralights in my sim.  I believe it is the only way to fly for enjoyment.  flying at 30000 all you can do is admire the clouds and they all look the same.  And with the autopilot you dont really fly anyway.  I am also looking for some good ultralights and microlights if you have any suggestions.  Downloaded one not to long ago that is a true amphib made in Russia.  had to add VC light so that I could see the guages but is great to fly with full animation.  Now I am working on a total repaint of the aircraft I will post the name tommorrow if you want.  Looks like there is only 2 of us interested in this type of low and slow flight.

My first love is the Jenny, next is the Waco, then
the Beavers, a silver P-38, American Girl and some
times a T-33, F-86, or RedBull Mig 15, to punch
holes in the clouds, for large holes, a Delta Dart!!
Airliners are to slow to respond, a go around can
take an hour!!
Give me a Jenny and the Alaskan bush, looking
for that damn bear that Kimber loves, "Buster"

Need I go into my hangar, and show you Paul ?

....you know what I fly.............once in a while I get coerced into buzzing the Golden Gate Bridge with something a bit larger than the norm, but I am sure you know where my heart lies.....

...............Just above the tree tops !    ;D

I prefer the light aircraft as well.  I occasionaly take something larger up for a spin but I find it kind of dull.
My latest "thing" is to calculate the approximate length of my flight and then set all of the auto failure gadgets to fail sometime towards the end.  It makes life kinda entertaining.
