Hi,

anyone here knows where to d/l a flight carrier with a flight deck upon which I can land and take off from? Also, please suggest suitable aircraft for doing the same.

THX

There are several default carriers already included in FS2K2. 3 are particularly easy to find. One off San Francisco, just west of the Golden Gate Bridge. Another off of San Diego, Southwest of Lindburg Field. Another in Hawaii. (Can't remember exactly where though.

I have the arrestor cable program, and I downloaded it for free, but I forget where.  I also have at least six different aircraft carriers that came in a package, much better than the default ones.  Look around, they're out there.

Of course, you could get payware -- Flight Deck III.

I agree. FS addons should be free so they can be accessable to everyone. People say it's a hobby that takes time and money so they have the right to charge. So does R/C aviation, but my club doesn't charge people to watch us fly. I just glad I have a copy of ArrCab before it became payware, but with FSUIPC payware now, looks like it's not going to work in FS2004.

Hi,

the link http://www.speakeasy.org/~rhogen/faq.htm [FAQ (including how to find the default carriers)] really doesn't tell us where the default carriers are located. ???

AN EXCERPT:

Another in Hawaii. (Can't remember exactly where though.

It's in Pearl Harbor, in the East Lock, right next to Aloha stadium.   :)

The only way we'll ever eliminate payware is if people just stop buying it.  Unfortunately, that won't happen, as there are too many people who equate money spent with level of satisfaction... :-[

When I first got F$98, I will admit, I picked up a few payware add-ons.  But that was the first time that I'd ever really gotten into it, other than toying around with some early versions in the mid 80s.

I picked up an add-on FMC, as well as Airport 2000 (I think that was the name of it...added Airport Textures), and a few more...but as I got more involved with the "hobby", I learned that there are many freeware add-ons that are equally as good, if not better than their payware brethren.

Support Freeware!  Perhaps this afternoon when I return from work I'll create a little graphic that shows the support of freeware, and anyone who wants to can link to it under their name.  Anyone interested?  Lemme know if its worth the effort...

MS;

Whatcha talkin' 'bout, "Cheesy"?  ;D

I've used ArrCab since it first came out as freeware. It makes a good addition to any of the default carriers when you're practicing landings. And, truthfully, the default Lincoln, off San Diego has the only working meatball out of all of them, even the 18 ArrCab carriers.

Well, fisharno, the arrcab flight deck is simply superb. Especially at night, the lights on the deck is awesome. I don't have the arrcab program but I downloaded the deck texture files(add-on scenary files) and even landed a cessna (w/o the arrcab program, remember) just within 1 feet of the deck area. I almost stalled while trying to land.

Now, its impossible to land any other big aircraft w/o the arrcab program, but one of the guys has helped me out on that (Thanks you-know-who)

Nice to see that there are so many people with interest to make these add-ons.

What I meant in my previous post was that the website makes explicit comment that locations of the default carriers can be found in the link mentioned, but once you navigate to that page, they actually say its not worth looking for the default carriers.

Regarding the payware issue, I think its fair that they make it so after a year's contribution as a freeware. (w.r.t. Arrcab). If the program is really good, it means that they have put in a lot of effort, and I have no problem paying for it, albeit in reasonable amounts, if I really feel the program is worth its weight in hard cash.
