I use the Saitek X-45 Joystick with its separate throttle.  I love it.
Great edit, Bob.

I don't use any of the above. A while ago, I bought the Real Flight Classic (G2 version is too expensive) R/C airplane simulator. It came with a joystick similar to an R/C radio. It's great because I have throttle, rudder, ailerons, elevator's, trims, and three function buttons at my finger tips. It's probably one of the best for flying helicopters.

I've had a real one but i used it for a r/c car (once for an aircraft, a few minutes before i drove it into a fence).
When i look back, i can understand that its great for a heli.

I just use the classic Microsoft Sidewinder joystick.  Simple but good enough for me.

I hope you're just wishing aloud here.  lol  For $300 you can get 2 hours of real world flight instruction!  haha

I just took a look at the HOTAS Cougar, and I've gotta warn you...it looks very similar to my Saitek X-45, which was about 1/3 the cost.  (I think I paid like $95 for mine, and it's substantially cheaper now.)

Plus, on mine, there's a "flip cover" over the "fire" button, much like you'll find in many combat fighters.

It may not be exactly the same, but for $200 less than the Cougar, it's worth my money.  lol

Just thought you might wanna know...

All those controllers of me aren't expensive if you compare it with the proffesional controllers that are for sale. What I have costs about $300,- and it works fine.
About that covered button; I usualy fly airliners or props wich dont have mavericks and sidewinders. ;D

Oh, don't get me wrong, I only fly commercial airliners (and I mean ONLY lol) too, but the protection over the button comes in handy for a lot of things.  I was thinking of trying to assign it to reverse thrusters, but I don't think I'll be able to.  It's also great for things like spoilers, gear, or anything else you don't want to deploy in-flight.

Thrust reversers is possible: assign it to decrease throttle, but I can't reverse in the air, I can only do it when one or more wheels touch the ground. Gear is a good idea by the way.

Like Hyperion says, the X-45 is THE hotas combo to use....I have had mine for over a year and unlike him, I fly everything with it........I have all sorts of stuff on mine and still only access the basic programming for it....still have to get into the advanced stuff, but for now, its doing all I need it to do.....
