What version of FS are you using?  FS2K2 Pro comes with GMax, which a lot of people seem to like.  I'm not a designer at all though, so that's the only one I know of.

The only freeware one is Gmax, but you'll need FS2k2 Pro for the gamepack stuff that will help.
Payware (and more popular/easy) are FSDS1 and 2.

After a few lines in the tutorial i go and do something

Donnie I sympathise. Gmax is harder than granite.
If you really want to learn it then try hanging around the aircraft design forum, and read all the links we have posted there. I've learnt an awful lot just reading stuff going on there, but I've commited myself to the realms of flight dynamics and testing. I'm not an artist.

My favorite happens to be FSDS2, you can however download Gmax for free by going to http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax... However, I have a hard enough time understanding FSDS2 let alone Gmax (and believe me, I have tried several times).
