System time not functioning right?

Postby Big_Al » Mon Jul 07, 2003 8:13 pm

I checked FS2002 to use my system time, but it is always 2 hours behind. Is this a known issue?

:)It depends where you are starting your flight from. If you are creating a flight and start from Megis, it will use the system time. If starting from a different time zone, then it will use that time zones time.
Hope this helps a little.

My system time worked fine till I encountered a few problems and did a reinstall. After that it didn't seem in sync with anything. Even local time doesn't work out. I'm in my world time zone at the moment but in another hemisphere and it is 18hrs adrift(don't even ask what day it is!) Basically I just set my own flying time unless the program time comes up near enough the goods. Cheers
White on White fly all night.

Red on White you're alright.

Red on Red you'll soon be dead.

Mine is set to use system time, but, it's always off by at least 2 hours. It just seems not to want to use my correct local time, no matter what.

:)By default, your flight usually starts with Megis, which is central time(- 6 hrs. from GMT). This time also is set to your system time, no matter where you live. If you start a flight from a different time zone, it will reflect the time zones time, not the system time.
Example: Create a flight in megis and look at you time, it should be the same as your system time. Change the starting airport to denver and the time will move back one hour. It sounds confusing, but all aircraft times are referenced to GMT.
Hope this clarifies things a little.

So, since I live in, and mostly fly in the Pacific time zone, if I changed the default, start-up flight to a West Coast airport, the sim would start showing the correct time for my location?

Makes too much sense. I thought, (and I guess lots of us did), that checking the system time would always show what time your computer said.   :-[

Thanks for that bit of info. I'm a happy camper, now.

Count me in that group.  That's gotta be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard...why call it "System time"?  lol
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

I know it's a bug because:

I set my airport location to the west coast
My system location is on the west coast

yet it is still 2 hrs behind!

:)Try starting a flight and then save it. It sounds like you are creating a flight which still will reference the central time zone, thus causing the 2 hour discrepancy. When you start your flight  set the time in FS2002 to your time manually. This should eliminate the discrepancy. Make sure you save it.

1. Start FS02
2. Go to your home airport, and select your location (i.e. runway or parking space)
3. Click FILE and select SAVE FLIGHT, under this option SELECT MAKE DEFAULT
4. Restart FS02 and your time should be that of your PC

you're right. my mistake. I found out the time was correct until I went to airport and changed it to the west coast, then the time changed -2 hrs.
