Computer Freeze

HI folks

I seem to have a bug :-/.

I take off, I fly off towards where I want to go, get there, get in touch with the tower and as soon as I ask permission to land and get a reply from the controller, about 25% of the time the computer freezes.

There also seems to be no patches at microsofts websight, now you can't tell me microsoft have written a program with absolutely no bugs in it !?

Has anyone else had the same problem ???

Cheers
Phil

Can you post your computer's specs? I have a feeling it might be a lack of memory, (RAM), or you have a few programs running in the background. But, it does help to see what kind of machine you have.

Lets see now

Dual PIII 800 FCPGA, 400 Mbyte SDRam 133, 40 gig hard drivex. EPOX motherboard with RAID/ATA 100 controllers.

I control my aircraft with a Logitech Wingman Pro joystick, seems to do a nice job.

Believe you me, no worries about my spec. ;D

Phil, it could be a background program interfering. I've had this a couple of times when I'm connected to the net and flying.
Best advice, disconnect from the net, and turn off anti-virus software and firewalls, and any other background programs you have. This should eliminate the initial problem, then build up slowly and see which program or combination causes the problem. I had to change my firewall a while back because of interference.

I had the same problem that I was able to trace to a DX 9.0a problem.  I can't swear it's the same on your machine but it's worth posting.

First I found a corrupt DX file.  Run the diagnostics program to check this.

Second, I discovered that DX 9.0a automatically sets your stick to "Poll with interrupts enabled".  It's hard to explain but it's bad and will slow everything - not just FS.

Since I corrected these both at the same time I can't tell which was causing the lockup - probably the corrupt file.

But you should turn the "poll with interrupts" off.  You don't need every program you run checking your joystick several hundred times a second.

Hi

Just an update, before I go flying I exit all firewall, antivirus, messanger services, real player and all other non essentials sitting in my tray icon tool bar, and the computer has so far behaved.
Only for some reason the computer seems to be running a bit choppy lately even with all the settings set way low and flying smaller aircraft.
Hope I've not downloaded to many aircraft and scenery packs etc.

I did this once to see if I could get it to work properly

waht that does is it doesn't laod any programs on startup
