I don't mind the occaisonal slide show but I hate when scenery becomes flat, no detail no texture etc. I have to press pause and wait about 2 min and all is restored for awhile! This can happen at moderate speeds and alt. My card is an MX420, 64 meg with driver 44.03, anyone have suggestion for this driver/card. Sliders @3/4. P4 @ 2.4, 512ddr, 40ghd, 75% free. Type acft dosen't matter, thanx guys.

Dougx,

Hi.

I jsut went through framerate issus and know what that kind of stuff can be like.  From the sounds of your base machine...... it should be doing better than that even with the 64 meg card.

While I had some bad frame rates (7-8 FPS) around big busy airports the scenery didn't do ANYTHING like that.

There are a lot of system "tweaks" that have been mentioned here about fixing such things.  Check some of the toher threads on similar topics and you'll fine a lot of interesting and helpful stuff.

Try changing one setting at a time in your "setup" section and do a test.  SOmetimes you'll find running a HIGHER setting actually IMPROVES the situation .......which is totally counterintuitive  ;).

Your base machine sounds a bit like mine.  I recently upgraded from a GeForce 2 MX 400 64 meg card to a ATI Raedon 9600 Pro and it has made a WHOPPING difference in the sim.

best,

.......................john

The latest driver sets don't work too well with your card. Try getting some of the 3x.xx series, you'll see a noticable difference in performance. The latest drivers are for FX4 and Ti cards mainly.

Thank you for the assistance with my problem. I will try some older drivers in the 3x. series. I am saving for an upgrade to video card. What confused me the most was that running sliders at max, AI @ 100% made only a slight difference in frame rate and had no effect on my problem. Forgot to mention I am running Dirx9.
Appreciate your help.   Doug

Sounds like my old 400MHz ;D try increasing your scenery cache size to 300Mb or higher (mine is 477mb).

Go to the settings tab in FS click on the Scenery Library Button there is a cache size adjustment there. You can also change priority of scenery groups.
