Is it ok to have FPS slider set to unlimited?

Hi all,
I have noticed that having the FPS slider set to unlimted I get as much as 91.6 FPS when flying and 25-40s on the ground.
However, is it normal to have the slider set to unlimited?
Will this cause any problems?
If so then where should lock the fps at?
Just in case it may help, here is my system specs:
AMD XP 2600+
1024 DDR pc2100
Nvidia GF4 TI 4200 64mb
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1
Windows XP Home
Thanks in advance

It won't damage anything if that's what your worried about. It also won't accomplish anything since the human visual system can't detect much more than 60-70 (I believe) FPS. Any above that and it's undetectable thus wasted resources.

My personal purely subjective opinion is that FPS should be locked at 20.
Movies run at 16 fps because your eye/brain can't handle any more than than that and you see it as continuous motion.
When you set your fps higher than that you force the software to keep up with your expected fps rate.
As a result the software compensates by decreasing other resolutions (scenery, etc.).
So you may end up running 50-75 fps, which you can't see, but your other resolutions suffer.
Set you fps to 20 then start increasing your other video sliders.
As Dennis Miller said, "It's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

I keep mine locked at 50, why don't I set up a poll and we'll see how everyone averages out with the framerate lock setting.

The 2002 frame rate is described as the maximum frame rate to optimize 3D rendering performance. Rendering means x,y,z and texture. Frame rate is reps.
Low FR, say about 10, may result in stutter and poor flight control. More is better but if set very high rendering may suffer unless you are running a Cray.
My setting is 30 FPS. Given excess system and card capacity I will get a filtering and other stuff. My card is a 9700 Pro and I have it set to Blend of Perf and Qual. This setting will likely give me bilinear filtering. Q will give me trilinear filtering. Antialias is set to 4x, anisotropic at 4x
Anisotropic is non linear filtering. These and other settings demand resources. Lots of resources. I have resolution set at the recommended 1024x768 and use 16 color quality. The system will consistently maintain the 30 FPS and the quality is excellent. Note that CFS2/3 gives straight frame rates decreasing as the system is loaded with settings and environment.
A different approach.
