smooth edges

Postby BDS » Wed Jun 04, 2003 8:39 pm

I know theres been talk in the past about getting smoother edges while in FS2k2 - but I cant figure it out. I turned off the anti-aliasing - but didnt notice any reduction. I dont have a great graphics card - whatever came in my computer - looks like its an Intel 82845G/GL - incase that gives ya any clue.

TIA.

Your PC uses the XF96 Graphics controller.

You'd normally expect to see your smooth edges deteriorate by turning off Anti-aliasing, not the other way around. However I'm pretty sure your graphics controller can't support anti-aliasing in the first place which is why you saw no difference.

Invest in a cheap PCI graphics card. Almost anything will give better results than you'll be seeing now.

You'd have a hard time filling a thimble with what I know about Graphics Rendering, but wouldn't increasing the resolution to say 1024x768 help some?

Hello BDS,

Well I run 6x Antialiasing and 16x Anisotropic filtering and its amazing, the difference between on and off is quite noticable.

PS I'll post a screenshot showing with Anti+Aniso and without them to see the difference

Increasing performance with value for dollar and not spending too much money to boot, I think I have a good solution, depending on how the rest of your system will support an agp card....I use a GeForce 4 MX440 SE and if you want to go and check some of my graphic posts in raw or edited, you will see that my jaggies are not very pronounced......I can't edit these out so you can look at my shots knowing this.......you may see some on older posts, but not of late......
This was one of my latest posts and was done through this card.......http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=screen;action=display;num=1053654112
I'm sure you can find this card for well under $200.

Thanks for the advice Ken. I wish I wouldve seen this before I went to work today - I picked up a ATI Radeon 9600 pro for $199 on my way home from work. Getting ready to pop it in now. I'll let ya'll know how it works.

BTW - I was perfectly happy w/ my current graphics card until I started posting here and seeing shots like yours! hehe  ;D ;)

From what I have been told about the 9600, you will be v. happy with your purchase, when you get it all set up correctly.............one thing I never mentioned on that post of mine is that my card is only 64 meg.....is that what you got or did you double it to 128 ?

Well - turns out I didnt install the 9600 - its an AGP only card, and well, I found out I have PCI slots (first time opening up the pc - and I should've just noticed fstipsters post). So I returned it and got a Verto 5200 which I believe uses the same processor as your geforce card -nvidia somethin'erother- but this has the 128 megs of ram, rather than the 64. It was a little more expensive, but the difference above my onboard is quite amazing.  No more rotorwash slow downs, I actually have details and reflections in water, and everything is sooooo smooooooth.  ;D

Thanks for the input everyone.
