I've seen these on commercial passenger and cargo aircraft. What are auto-spoilers, I've put the setting on but never noticed any change. Are they linked to the auto pilot or something?  ???

Auto spoilers are "armed" before landing. These then deploy when the aircraft's main gear is on the gound, to "kill" the lift produced by the wing.

Thanks. I just put them down manually anyway.

On many aircraft the auto-spoilers (also referred to as "speed brakes"), if armed, will deploy when you hit your Reverse thrust (hold down F2).

However, this doesn't happen on every aircraft, and for some you have to hit the / key to make them pop up. So it's always a good idea to check to see if they're down when you land. (Usually the speed brake handle will be closer to you)

Just to clarify, "Shift + /" arms the autospoilers whereas "/" deploys them manually.
