Help installing a Dauphin

I am having trouble installing the AS365 Dauphin by Antti Pankkonen that I got off simV.  At first the only sounds I had were ambient sounds.  Nothing for the engines or wind sounds of the blades.  I saw in the instructions that I needed to add my own sounds.  It also said that I needed to move the waypoint.txt and the dauphin.cfg files from the panel folder to the main FS2002 folder (which doesn't make sence to me).  Later they also said that I needed some other file that isn't included in the download to be able to use the GPS options.  You would think that when getting an aircraft download that has its own install program to do everythign for you, these things would also be included and set up for you.  I feel like I only downloaded half of the helo.  I really like the looks of it and the  only reason I got that one was to be able to use the chrome texture that you can download seperate for it.  Does anyone have a fully complete Dauphin that will accept the textures designed for the Antti Pankkonen version?

Also, on the Dauphin and the GMAX Airwolf from here, I noticed that to get the gear to go up or down, I have to either pause the game, then hit the "G" button, or hit the "G" button and then pause.  Is there a way to fix that?  It even says to do this in the instructions, but I find it hard to believe you can't do it normally like on the default aircraft.  Is there a way to change this? :(

Hi Darkhorse, I haven't tried the Dauphin, so I can't advise there. However the heli gear/pause problem is well known. There is no fix for this. Sorry.

Ozzy :(

Please remember that all downloads will vary depending on the creator's own preferences & experience. Many talented designers have no idea of the best way to configure their files for posting. Some downloads might require other elements such as the GPS you refer to for various reasons, one being that the author of a particular element refused permission for it to be included.

You would think that when getting an aircraft download that has its own install program to do everythign for you, these things would also be included and set up for you.

If this was made a condition of uploading files we would miss out on so much. For the reasons stated above I never trust anything configured as auto-install. If it's not possible to change the install path to a temp folder I would not use the files. Unless the install has been properly configured & thoroughly tested by an experienced beta tester it could make things even worse. Your problem with the Dauphin is a good example.  A few minutes spent reading the tutes & learning how to install stuff manually would prevent most installation problems I see in these forums. IMHO

I don't mind doing self installs and didn't mean to suggest making that a stipulation of uploading if that is what you thought I meant.  That is the first time I've had a problem like this where I don't get everything that I need in one download.  I didn't even realize that it had the .exe file untill after the download.  I had DL'ed a pair of A-10 Warthogs that installed with an .exe file that haven't had any problems.  I think the flight dynamics make them too agile for my tastes, but don't have anything to compare them to to see if they are supposed to "turn on a dime".

And I already got the chrome textures too.  :-[  I started both at the same time and the chrome of course finished way ahead of the mane file.  I think I saw another Dauphin or 2 on here too.  Would it be possible to get one of them and modiy the chrome textures to work on the other helo instead?  Without doing a complete repaint on my own that is.

Sorry Darkhorse, I misread your original point.

Reflective textures are defined in the MDL file when it's exported. If an aircraft does not have them it's unlikely you can do anything about it.
