a problem with the ILS system

Postby bombi » Sat May 10, 2003 9:27 am

I have always the same problem!
when i established on the localizer i hit the APR button
and the aircraft has to control his altitude and horizontal to the runway.
When i hit the APR button the aircraft is trying to align himself to the runway and fails.
in addition, the aircraft is not controlling his altitude.

anybody has an idea what is the problem?

maybe i am doing something wrong.

i will apreciate any  help.

thanx

It dosen't sound like it's a system problem. There is a rather small envelope in which you have to establish yourself inside the ILS/Glideslope cone.

Although the aircraft should hold course to the localizer beacon, the pilot still manually controls speed, flaps and attitude.

Hope this helps.

Hi bombi and welcome to the forum.

This might sound silly, but I've done it myself before now:

Make sure you have the Nav/GPS selector on Nav, otherwise APR will just try and track the GPS flightplan. Sorry if you do already.

If you are already selecting Nav, make sure you activate APR when below the glideslope. FS2002's autopilot can't usually capture it from above.

Hi there,
Agree with the above. I always activate Apr well before I reach the glideslope, and let the a/pilot do the work Also ensure you have the frequency set right, and as previously stated, your approach altitude is about 2500ft on interception. :)
Regards

:-* You can also activate the EFIS which will show you where the ILS envelope is.
Where is it written?

Thank you all for your help.

It's not my first time landing, something it's working
and for most of the time it's not working.
i don't know why.

I tried to land in israel airport (Ben Gurion) and
the airplane cannot manage his attitude.
the aircraft is aligned with the runway but he is going down.
I think there is a problem with the glideslope (or with me :-) )).

Not all ILS-equipped runways have a glideslope, though. EGAC runway 4 has ILS equipment, but it will only line you up, you have to descend to the runway by yourself.
