Better FPS with VC than 2D?

Postby codered » Thu May 01, 2003 9:05 am

I was flying the CS727 the other day and I was noticing that when I switched back and forth from the 2D panel to the VC, I got better FPS with the VC.  Other aircraft I have noticed are like this, why.  I would think the VC would have more detail to render than the 2D panel.  Granted I had the gauges on low resolution, because they still looked good and gave better FPS.  Even so, I would think a 3D world would take more memory and time than a 2D one.  Not that I am complaining about this, because I prefere to be in VC mode anyways....

Just curious what others think.....

That is unusual. Is this a gmax model? If so it might be something to do with the VC being part of the model, so it doesn't have to draw on the bmp panel etc so it doesn't use more system resources?
Just an idea? Stabbing in the dark with a chainsaw here...

Gauges are another possible reason for this.

Generally speaking, they don't all work in the VC - thereby giving the processor less work to do.

I haven't got the aircraft you're referring to so I can't guarentee it applies in this particular case, but you might want to do a quick scan of the V.C. and see if some of the working gauges in the 2D panel are dummies in the V.C.

Coo, and there was me thinking that you were talking about the VC-10.

What a great plane that is! Anybody else fly one?

:)

That's the site where I got the VC 10 from. I'm using the RAF mid-90s livery and the custom sounds (wow! what a roar!). Stable plane that'll sit on M0.91, but I don't think it has a huge range. BOAC/BA I think used it transatlantic, so I'm flying from Heathrow to Philadelphia to see if I get there!

Chuck me a rubber dinghy, someone.

;D
