Is there a program or add-on the makes the ATC in FS2k2 more fun? I know about VATSIM but i find it hard to get it starting. I mean a program or add-on that you can use in singel player.

(I need this becuse the defult ATC is getting borring and Irritating.)

Roger Wilco V3 comes well recommended although it's payware.

You can get more details here:

Hi Dr - what exactly is the problem? Obviously you'll never get it to tell jokes (you have to come to Simv for that  ;) ) but for the most part the ATC is a pretty good feature if used correctly. If you never do IFR flights and ILS approaches and landings, OK, but then nothing will be much good for you.

there is one good thing about it, if it annoys you and you swear at it at least you wont get yelled at over the phone by ATC when you land :-/ ::)

I think ATC is quite limiteds sometimes, U know what  mean?

some features R far away from reality (ok ok,  know it's quite difficult to build that software)
but somethings  really missin

1. changing levels during IFR flight
2. emergencies
3. Changing of runaways if bad conditions happen
4. alternatives airports for a low fuel a/c

If these features R included in the new fs2004 should be great!

There's a small preview movie of FS2004 going around which shows that you have the option to change flight levels and also destination during an IFR flight. Don't think there'll be emergencies, though....

I think it is excellent the work that Microsoft put into programming the ATC.
The voices are excellent and I am always amazed that the program is able to know exactly where I am, both flying and on the ground, (my co-ordinates).
Most of my flying is VFR and I have great fun dialling up the radios and getting ATC replies back... ;D...!
I expect FS 2004 will have improvements in the ATC, but at the moment I think they have done remarkably well with FS 2002!

Cheers...

I'm also very pleased with ATC. One thing puzzles me a bit, though... when I fly IFR and request visual approach there are times when I am told to contact approach when I'm way too close to the runway. It seems like I need a bit more time, right? Also, at times, I'm cleared for landing and I can see a plane on final approach ahead of me. Granted, ATC tells me to go around, but why was I given the all-clear to land in the first place rather than instructed to circle for a while?

Look folks, this is a computer flight sim that you run on your desktop PC. Compared to what was available before FS2002 it has helped to take simming onto the next level. It's the first time anything like it has ever been achieved and as Fozzer says, creating software that coordinates your aircraft flying randomly in real time AND the AI (which itself was yet another total innovation) is quite an achievement. We already know that further improvements that will make it even more powerful are in the pipeline.

We keep seeing postings that are critical about the ATC, mainly from guys who have no experience of real life and know nothing about how it works in reality. Yes, there are a few shortcomings with the current system but on the whole it's a pretty dam good representation of how things work in real life. When you fly an IFR flight plan you DON'T do visual approaches for crisake. If you want to, stick to VFR in light aircraft and when you're ready to fly with the big boys, learn how to do it right.

The present ATC system is adequate for basic IFR training. I for one think it's a significant achievement and look forward very much to what's to come in the future.

Sorry about this blast, but I'm tired of seeing constant gripes about the system. My advice is if you don't like it, switch it off and don't use it. Other wise get $20 million out of your back pocket for a commercial flight simulator.

;D

I REALLY don't think that's called for, right? Besides, notice my first sentence about being very pleased with ATC? This is an excellent forum that is extremely helpful to people of various levels of experience, so any posting that is demeaning to anyone is counterproductive. Diatribes are OK; insults are not.
Just my opinion.

Yup, I'm pleased too - I think U do misunderstood (just a little)

'm trying to say that fs is geting closer and closer to real thing so, theses are my expectations for it - if they can not come in once, that's ok, that's fne, I ll not love less my fs!

Still flight simmin' is the very best for me!!!

What i ment was, for example:

A program that makes it possible to use voice commands insted of the menu.

A program that enables you to Annuence Emergencyes.

A program that makes YOU be the ATC and control the AI flights on a radar.

That sort of thing. Not something that makes the ATC tell a joke. Im really happy for the ATC that already is in FS2k2. Its nothing bad about it. Not at all.
