FS2002 Splashscreen

Anyone know what would cause the FS2002 splashscreen to display at a different resolution than when the program scenery loads?
I have FS2002 Pro and the default splashscreen of the 747 displays with the sky as very distinct graduated bands in lieu of a transition between light to dark blue. No big deal really, but recently decided on a new look, so I downloaded the Red Arrows Display Team flying the BAE Hawk in formation. The image displays with the aircraft as blue in lieu of red... . This may also occur when I boot up, since the Windows 98 splashscreen clouds seem to display at a lower res but have no comparison to confirm the original image resolution. The colors for both dlgsplash.bmp images display fine in PhotoShop, PhotoPaint, XnView, etc.

I am running Win98 with an nVidia GeForce2 MX 64Mb at 1152x864 32bit(TrueColor). It seems this would be a display card or display setting issue not specific to FS, but it does not occur with other programs. This is the only game I have installed, all other programs are business graphics, animation(3DS MAX), photo editing, etc.

Any ideas / suggestions?

Thanks

RB

I think the default spash screen is supposed to look that way, at least it always has for me. If  you don't like it you can  make your own splash screen and see how that displays. All you need to do is take a screen shot that you like and use Image Tool (you can find it here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\gmax\Flightsim\gamepacks\FlightSim)

to change the format to 16-Bit (555), rename it dlgsplash.bmp and put it in your:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\UIRES

Folder. Now you have your own custom splash screen.

Windows 98 logo screen is a low res screen. Short of replacing it, there's nothing you can do about it. It's not a problem with your P.C.

As Matt said, the default FS2002 splash screen has inherent banding. Again - not a P.C. problem.

There are plenty of splashcreens in the downloads section and you might want to download the splash screen randomiser (free) from Dreamfleet here:

It's the link at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for the tips & links!!!  At least now I won't be freaking about hardware or config problems.
