Frame Rates

The frame rates on my computer are very slow. THe display settings are on low, and in places such as Maui, Hawaii, I get a steady 30FPS. When I go to Los Angeles for instance, they drop to about 8-10FPS. This is really starting to get on my nerves. I have a 1 GHz computer, and a 64MB MX420 video card. From what I've heard, I should be getting much better frame rates. Does anyone have any secret techniques for getting faster frame rates? If so, please tell me. Thanks alot.

You should be doing better than that. I think if you look around previous pages 5 or 6 you may get some info as this was a recent topic. It might not be that far back even.

There are a number of possible causes. To much AI traffic, add-on scenery, mesh and scenery densities set to high.
First check you are running directX 9.0 from M$, and have you got the correct video drivers? With the MX420, the latest ones aren't the best to run.
Then try turning all your scenery and AI settings to 0 and increasing them in increments to see what happens.

I turn the clouds percentage down and the maximum visability down to a minimum. Depending on the size of your hard drive increasing the size of the graphics cache can help.
Ramsa 329 and the tipster are the best people to advise you.

Hi B-Dub,
What do you have your display settings set at?
If you have everything maxed and are running at a 32-bit 1024x768 or greater with Anti-Aliasing turned on, (just for example), you're doing quite well with those fps in a built up area.
I run an XP 1800+ chip with a GF4 MX440. I also have Lago's FSSE running. Coupled with some frame hogging add-on scenery, I only get 7-12fps at Meigs with settings as I described above.
