Replacement air file for helicopter?

Postby WebbPA » Fri Mar 28, 2003 8:14 pm

I saw a replacement .air file for the default Bell helicopter somewhere - the original being almost impossible to fly.  Does anyone know where it is?

And please don't send tips on flying the original.  I've read several tuts and spent hours flying it and I just want an easier version.

I'm not sure why you think the default is impossible to fly, I found it difficult but got the hang of it soon enough.
Also having just upgraded I am amazed at the change in the handeling of the helicopters in particular, they are much easier to fly on my new machine.
perhaps your problem is hardware.

Why not just turn all the realism settings to minimum, that should take away most of the trouble.

I just saw a replacement air file and thought I'd try it but I can't find it now.  The default Bell isn't impossible, just very difficult to hover and land.  I have an addon Huey that's too easy - can't crash it if I try.

And every time I change the realism settings I forget to change them back.

Quite some time back (FS98) there used to be a jet air file that you could use for helicopters but I have not seen it distributed for a long time.  This file did not give you the opportunity to hover if I remember correctly.  I recommend that you visit HoverSafe or HoverControl to get some tips on hovering and flying generally.  Stick with it because its a great feeling when you make that first zero speed rooftop landing.

All the best

Thanks.  I'll either try that file or just learn how to do it right.  I spent just enough time learning how to fly so I can take off and travel in a straight line.  I never bothered learning how to slow down, hover and land.  It was pretty rewarding the first time I got off the ground in something approaching controlled flight, so I can see that landing on buildings and things could also be rewarding.
