Any good media players?

Recently, I have begun to embark on longer journeys, and have often found myself getting bored mid-flight. I also recently purchased GTA3, and noticed that it came with an in-game MP3 player. Is there any program out there that will allow me to play music from my hard drive in-game? I don't just want to use the media player itself, because it eats up precious system resources, and never stops.
