Hi all

just a very quick one for you what exactly is the course button for besides the obvious. I mean I can take off fly to the destination airport and perform an ILS landing no probs and I NEVER set the course using this button so what exactly should I be doing with it.

thanks in advance

I set the course for the heading of the destination's runway. So if I'm landing at EGAC on runway 22, I set it to 223, and that way I can check how close I am to do the ILS triangle.

Setting your course is also a way for you to track a certain heading using pilotage, or tracking to or from a nav aid.

Dial in the heading and it should adjust your needles on your HSI to show you direction.

When you're doing that ILS approach, set your course to the runway heading and fly toward the approach at an angle. Watch the needle on the HSI start to move toward the center, and point toward the indicated direction. As everything starts to line up in the HSI, you need to start your turn so your needle is lined up and centered in the HSI.

You've just captured the ILS, and on your way to a safe touchdown.
