How can I get the ATC not to direct me in IFR?

Shalom!
In IFR flights in the real world ATC doesn't tell you where to turn and all that. That's why you have the VOR, how can I get the ATC just to SHUT UP and lett me navigate my aircraft myself?
Thanx

I'm with you on this one, commander!
I wish there was just a "Turn Off the ATC" switch somewhere, too. Especially on landings where all the traffic is routed to one busy runway, and there's a perfectly good runway, right next to it, that's empty. And here you are, swinging in the wind, # 2 for landing, and ATC makes you go around.
I don't play with AFCAD, so I'm stuck in AI Default Pergatory!

Think its possible to make a gauge for that? There are gauges for turning just about everything else in the sim off, so why not ATC?
Maybe something that disables all the sounds and text transmitted by the ATC?
I don't know much about gauge design, so its just a wild stab in the dark.

Just turn your comms radio off or tune it to a frequency with nothing on it.
However, if you're looking to retain your IFR flight plan at the landing stage at the end, you have to follow their directions in FS2002.
FS2004 has considerably more options in that department so you may find your ideal solution there.

You could always hit the cancel IFR option on the ATC. You will still have the Nav Log and the GPS flight plan to follow.
Effectively you will be flying IFR using VFR conditions with ATC. Not accurate but a simple solution.
Good luck

Duh!
I never thought about turning the freq on the comm radio. That was probably too simple of a solution.
Thanks, Tipster.

I've tried to cancel the IFR, but then they scold me for the uncleared landing.
My wife says: "Play by the rules!"

Fisharno,
If you "Go VFR" during an IFR flight you need to follow VFR rules for landing, ie contact the tower. The tower will tell you where to enter the holding pattern but will not direct you on how to do it.
I would imagine that ATC would be quite shocked if 747 just turned up and landed.
Surely if you just change com frequency the ATC will bin you for not responding and switch you over to VFR in a huff?

Geez, that's great.
You gave me a "work-around" for the ATC issue. And, another one for the wife issue.
Got another one I could use for my thinning hair or my pudgy midsection?
