Pilot controlled lighting

Postby J G Parker » Thu Mar 13, 2003 9:38 pm

Hi all.  I use FS Nav for flight planning, and I noticed a few airport maps have 'pilot controlled lighting' indicated, seemingly on some of the taxiways.  I am not familiar with this.  What is it?  how do I interact with it in FS2k2.

Pilot controlled lighting is used at some remote non-towered strips. It works by tuning your COM1 frequency to whatever the freq is, and keying the mike a certain number of times to switch the lights on. The lights are on a timer, and go aff after (I think) 20 minutes of non-use.

I have no idea is this is possible in FS2K2, and I don't have FSNav. Maybe someone else will know?

No sh**!?  Please let me know where one of these airports is.  I can't wait to try it.  (I have FSNav.)

Unfortunately, it isn't modelled in FS2002.

Thanks.  That makes sense.  I spotted the reference in the COM frequencies available in FS Nav.  And saw it noted on a Jeppeson approach plate.  I think I saw it when I was flying to Provincetown island, MA.  MS has an adventure (Aerial Chauffeur) that includes some plates, and I think this is where is spotted it most recently.  But I've seen it referenced before.  Too bad it doesn't work in FS2k2.  That would be very cool.  Someone (with more talent than me!) should do an airport upgrade and include it!
