Auto Pilot (or not as the case may be)

I've read all the 'destructions' with regard to auto pilot and I still don't know where I'm going wrong.
e.g Dept Ncle on Runway 25. Auto Pilot set at Heading 197, speed 330, hight 5,000. When I engage auto pilot the aircraft turns to the set heading, the speed seems about right but it will not lock onto the altitude setting. It feels like it just wants to nose dive.
Any pointers chaps?

don't set your speed to high, otherwise the A/P will put the nose down so the speed will rise, but then you won't climb. keep the speed low during the climb (climb speed depends on the A/C of course)
make sure your vertical speed setting isn't set to 0 fmp.

OK, you might laso want to give the aircraft a helping hand with the trim. Make sure Num Lock is OFF, then hold down the 1 key on the number pad. Set to higher than you want and the AP will put it back down itself.

Thanks chaps! Yeh, I was a we bit on the fast side. Its working OK now.
The next daft question is:- Can I give ATC a 'Geordie' accent. No No thats a Joke, 'diy ya not kna like, haway man'
the question for real is:- I've heard people say they 'fast forward' a flight. How is this done?

LOL - you click the simulation speed.
It's usually found in the clock on most aircraft, as "1.00".
Click it and it will go up to 128 if you so desire (but not with the autopilot on). There's a speed restriction where the sim is flying the plane (16X I think - could be wrong).
