Building Landings

I have been trying to land on top of buildings in helicopters and the Harrier and whenever I try I fall straight through the roof.

Is there any way of making the roof "solid" to allow landings and take offs.

Some buildings have solid roofs but not all. Try Meigs - lift and head for the skyscrapers. The first big one you come to has a solid roof you can land on.

Will, buildings that have a flashing red light on top you can land on, as those are helipads. Try downloading the New Orleans sceneries from the helicopter section (there are about 9), this gives you dozens to practice on.

Put that ciggie out!  ;D

It's a problem in FS2002 unfortunately. Some buildings you can land on, if they've been programmed for it, most you can't.

If you want to land on a specific building with any regularity, you can add an invisible hardened surface using FSSC (excellent freeware scenery tool).

It's really easy to use (trust me - I'm a total novice at scenery creation and I managed it LOL).

Otherwise you'll have to get some hover practice in LOL.

Will,

1. MOST flat-roofed buildings in FS2002 are landable. There are only a few tall ones that aren't.
2. The presence or absence of a light is insignificant.
3. The problem you relate is consistent with having crash detection turned OFF.
4. If you need some help with flying the helicopter, we may be able to help: http://members.shaw.ca/hoversafe/Hoversafe.htm

Thanks for the help guys.  I will try out a few more buildings.

Calb, I always fly at 100% realism so crash detect is always on.  The majority of buildings still don't seem to have roof's.

Also, if you can see your shadow on a rooftop, you can land on it, that's how I know
