Why are the 29.42's better for me?

Postby codered » Mon Feb 24, 2003 11:37 am

Could someone be able to explain to me why the 29.42 drviers for my Nvidia give me better performance than the newest drivers?  I am not complaining, but I find it wierd that my Geforce 4 Ti 4400 128mb card is performing better with the 29.42.  Granted my seetings are not all maxed, but pretty close to it.  It has never looked better or performed better.

Of course now that I have said this I will go home and find a problem or my computer won't start.  This posting may get moved into the tech side, but I thought is was a topic for all Nvidia users of FS2002.

Whitey recently discovered this also, but he also found out that CFS3 is not compatible with those drivers.

Not that I am complaining.  I don't have CFS3 so that is not an issue for me.  I was just curious that is all.  Maybe it is what FS2002 was created with.  Who knows...  I will just continue to have fun.....

The 29.42 drivers are compatible with CSF3 - Whitey had a config problem which he later discovered.

As to why they appear to produce improved frame rates is anybody's guess.

NVidia produce drivers as often as I have breakfast.  ::)They're famous for it.

What tends to happen is that they discover that an element of any given release doesn't work happily with a particular game. So they release a new driver that fixes it. This often results in problems with a different game that may have worked fine previously. (The inability to display the menu bar in full screen mode in FS2002 with a driver released a few months ago, whose number I forget, springs to mind.) So then they release a driver update to fix that and something else doesn't work...and so on...and  so on...

This is a slightly oversimplistic view but you get the idea.
