Can you use Panels from different planes?

Hello,

I downloaded the Cessna 310 and it is beautiful plane. (Possibly my RTW pick!!!)

Unfortunetly the panel is not pretty at all. So I copied the panel files out of the 182 Skylane and put them in the panel folder of the Cessna 310 and it seems to work ok...but...I have a feeling the speed of the Cessna 310 is not displaying properly.

Would it be displaying the cruise speed of the 182?

In the documentation for the Cessna 310 is says that it should cruise along at about 200 kts. But if you look at this picture the speed indicator and the GPS ground speed both say only about 130 (and thats with almost full throttle!)
There was no wind either...

Any ideas? Or better yet..Can I use the panel that Tipster designed for the Baron on the Cessna 310? (that would be the ultimate )

Hi Cherokee.

There should be a recommended altitude for cruising too. It's very unlikely to be the gauge not displaying properly, particularly as the GPS is reflecting the same thing and works with all aircraft.

You can swap panels freely but what you have to watch is the gauges.

e.g. dedicated Jet engine gauges (by and large) won't work properly in a prop, and dedicated turbocharged prop engine gauges won't work in a panel for a normally aspirated engine.

Aside from these general guidelines, and the parameters in the .air and aircraft.cfg files, anything else should work ok. Just as a further example, if you add an outopilot gauge to the Baron which has autothrottle and speed settings as I recently did, you'll need to enable these functions in the aircraft.cfg or they won't work.

One thing though...What type of things do you need to look for in the .AIR and aircraft.cfg files when you are swapping panels and gauges? Can you give me an example?

The easiest way to avoid problems is to only transfer gauges from planes with similar engine types - then you're always safe.

The autopilot panel I mentioned was the example really. The changes that need to be made when they do, are dependant on the gauge itself. They will usually fundamentally change the charectersitics of the plane and I wouldn't usually recommend doing it.
