I own the already-mentioned HOTAS Cougar.
And I really have a hard time understanding why some of you thinks the Saitek X-45 is better ???
Have you ever flown with the Cougar?

The Cougar is the definition of what a joystick should be: sensitive, great ergonomics and STURDY! Cripes this beast weighs in at about 8kgs (18-pounds)
I will never go back to plastic controlers again, that's how spoiled you get when flying with the cougar.
And I wont even get started on the great software that comes along.

Remember, there's a reason why this stick is in the F16 cockpit. Yes it is expensive, but it will pay-off in the long run.

My friend has the Saitek X-45 so I have a decent understanding about its performance.
To compare the X-45 and the Cougar is to compare a Cessna 172 to  a turbojet  ;D

I'll have to lok it to it further but the cougar kicks ass ;D

Sorry, but I just can't see how ANY joystick is worth $300.  Especially one that doesn't get fitted into a real plane...
Great edit, Bob.

I use a Logitech Wingman (which I hate with a passion.lol-definately time for a new stick) and a CH Virtual Pilot yoke & pedal set.

I was thinking of trying to assign it to reverse thrusters, but I don't think I'll be able to.

About the thrust reversers,(I'm assuming you have FSUIPC in)In FSUIPC,go to 'Joysticks' and one the third page you'll see options for 'Reverse','Idle' and 'Max'.Just move your throttle all the way back for the reverse setting, slightly forward for idle & then obviously open it full for max. Then when you fly you'll have reverse thrust on the throttle and won't have to worry about assigning it to a button. ;)

More advanced joystick= More fun
Better performance = More fun
Better looks and feel = More fun

We're in it for the fun, that's why I bought the Cougar, my old Cyborg 3d just didn't cut it for me anymore.

And you wanna know how to make money with the cougar; Easy: Charge a buck for everyone who wants to feel it in his/her hands...  ;D

Well, the best part is, he has yet to explain WHY it's superior, other than to say A) It's better, and B) It's more expensive.

That to me is hardly a rave review.

HOW is it better?

It looks almost IDENTICAL to my X-45.

I use a rudder pedal, throttle, yoke combo (4 throttles 4 mixtures). ;D it adds prescision to my flying in normal aircraft. I have a joystick and a collective lever for helis fighters 'Mechs  ;D and aerobatic aircraft.

Some of you ( I wont mention any names) simpy dont get it.
Let's put your values into real life.

"Geez, that new Trans-Am looks almost identical as my car at home, I mean it has 4 rubber tyres, a steering wheel and an engine..."

First off, I the Cougar is more SENSITIVE, has stronger springs and thus RESPONDS better and more accurate. To me, the X-45 has a sloppy feeling, and it's too light.
And the ergonomics of the Cougar is fantastic, far better than Saiteks. The throttle feels like it was molded by your hand.
Also, it carries far more buttons, and I have a hard time

Well, my stick is extraordinarily comfortable.  Also feels molded by my hand.

I have yet to use all the buttons.

Never broken any springs.

I'm smart enough to adjust the sensitivities in F$ itself.

Haven't had any issues for Joe to be necessary.

Did mine even need a manual?

And oh yeah, it was 1/3 the price.

And when did this become a contest, anyway?
