You don't need to be online to experiance weather changes, infact real world weather stays the same until you quit the sim or update it manually again. However, FS2004 will update weather every 15 minutes, can't wait. ;D
Were you flying at the time you updated or were you on the ground. If you were flying at the time, you might have just passed into the next weather cell. FS2002's weather is devided into a grid and you only see the weather at the nearest reporting station, which explains sudden changes. Once again, FS2004 promises to get rid of this, allowing you to see what you're flying into.
