AUSTRALIAN AIRPORTS IN 300ft deep CRATERS

Postby quinny » Sat May 10, 2003 8:52 am

:'( :( >:(Please, anyone with information on how to fix the below problem would be greatly appreciated.

PROBLEM:  Australian scenery airports, mostly air force bases have incorrect elevations and are in 300 ft deep craters compared with the surrounding scenery. I am not sure why this is and don't much care, I would just love to know "How to get the aircraft elevation level with the surrounding scenery?" if this is at all possible?

cheers

i dont really know what you mean, but im guessing you are saying that those airports are in ditches, and you want the airport level with the surrounding land..if that is the case, you will have to do some of your own scenery development..cause i dont think you will find anyone that has made such scenery..8)

Yeah, I am wondering if anyone has altered the default scenery at all.

if you go to "go to airport" and select airport id "YAMB" RAAF base Amberley and take off you will see what I mean

Get OS and see what these pr*cks dish up. I can tell ya you'll be glad to see OZ even if you have to land upside down in pigsh*t.
Anyway mate good to see ya and what was the question again?

I'm wondering if some 3rd party terrain mesh scenery would fix it. You should find some right here on SimV or similar FS sites. I've also seen various sites devoted to Austrailan scenery for FS. They should show up any decent search engine.

OK. I checked Amberley out and that is what you can expect to see with regard to OZ scenery and etc.
There are some upgrades available for Australia on this site and others and a LandClass scenery upgrade on OCEANIA.SIM for all of OZ. Check out AUSSIM as well for home grown talent including the great Garry Smith at GJSmith.com

CHEERS :)

Guys, I dont think theres anything wrong with these airports, there happens to be a giant ditch with a airstrip inside by coincedence? Nah. You dont see any other giant ditches with nothin inside do ya? Developers just gave us a challenge. I've done it before.
Or I could just be totally wrong about the whole thing. Whatever way.  ::)

P.S.
SESM is another giant ditch.

YPPH shows the same and it ain't right. At work with the wind in the right direction I could just about spit on the domestic terminal!

Quinny: I have been to both YPPH & YAMB & dont see any of what you have described! :)
I do use the SATPAC Australian Mesh, & if my memory serves correct this is the only terrain mesh for MAINLAND Australia (i.e. Excluding Tasmania) available.
Would you be able to tell us exactly which airports do the 300ft undergraound thing please?

(SATPAC mesh is available via this site: http://www.satpac.pcsa.net.au/

Not my day for links... :(

Colin - can you post a hyperlink to Oceansim please?

Guruswarmyoz - all I get from that satpac link is a gateway timeout.

I fly in  and out of Lilydale (YLIL) Victoria airfield all the time it is in a crater but the real airfield is on flat ground.
Try flying into Wyndam (YWYM) it is in a deep well, not a crater you have to fly in in a steep angle to get to the runway. When they built the default scenery  i think the elevation was too high and when they put in the airports at the correct elevation they had to be sunk into this crater to get to the correct hight. 8) ::) :D

FSTipster:

Oceania Sim: http://oceaniasim.net/
As for SATPAC, one is unsure why it is doing that, but it could be that the site has gone. Suffice to say i might try & contact the original authors to see if one can put these elsewhere.

FSPilot:
This is really strange! I have not seen this (& continue to not see it) @ Lilydale and or Wyndham --> This is with or without the terrain mesh installed.
Any chance of posting a screenshot? I'll post a screenshot here tomorrow to show what i have.

Hmmm...unless it's me, there's a problem at the Oceania site. The links at the top aren't there (simulated red crosses where they should be but even they don't seem to be real). :(
