Wind noise when lowering landing gear , etc.

Postby Jamie » Sat Jan 20, 2007 11:22 pm

I enjoy flying the AVENSA 727-294 , but would like to get rid of the terrific wind noise when lowering the gear .  Sometimes the noise even persists when placed on pause .  I would also like to remove the annoying " terrain -- pull up " which is not appropriate most of the time .  I would also like to remove the  distance to ground notifications , but have been unable to find wav's for any of this .  The sound file in the AVENSA is aliased to the default 737-400 .
Thanks ,
Jamie

Seeing as you can't pin point the actual .wav file causing the sounds, I would suggest downloading a whole new sound package. I'm sure that there will be a good 727 one out there, or atleast one far better than the default.  ;)

Hi Alex ,

I have a number of good planes , but wonder where those wav files are ?  If aliased to the default 737 it would seem the sound would be the same for both .  Just wanting to learn a little more about this complicated stuff .
Thanks Alex ,
Jamie

Also sometimes with some planes (I know this is true in FS9 & FSX) there is .wav files in the "Sound" folder in the main FS8 directory :)

Hi Ravang ,
In the past I have been able to find them in the main FS2002 sound directory and have even changed the volumes of some files that were too loud or too soft , but did not see them this time .  I listened to a bunch of stuff , but none sounded like the files I wanted .  Since it was aliased to the default 737 , I figured they had to be coming from that location , but do not know where they are " hidden " or perhaps how they are named ???  Just a simple unimportant mystery I would like to know the answer to .  May have something to do with the aircraft cfg. ???
Thanks ,
Jamie

The sound may be coming from one of your gauges.

As far as I know the default 737 sound package does not have a "Terrain - pull up" sound.  That sound is generated by a gauge.  It may be the same with your gear gauge.

Unfortunately the sounds are built into the .gau files, which is why you can't find the .wavs.

If that is the case you could edit panel.cfg and replace the gear gauge.

Hi Webb ,

I figured it would have to be something like that .  I did not think of a gauge having that sound .  I usually like to fly the America West 737 which has a fantastic wing view and it all works fine .  Just wondered where in the world that sound was coming from in the Avensa.  I do like the interior shots in the Avensa .
Thanks webb ,

Try it before you thank me.  I  said "may be" and "could be" because I'm not really sure.

Webb ,

You must surely be right and I am counting on you completely as are thousands of others !!!
Heeeee!!!  Just kidding !  Not that big a deal and may not mess with it .  It did have me baffled because I too knew that the default 737 did not have all of that .
Thanks Webb ,
