Safe Downloads

Postby caveman16 » Fri Dec 09, 2005 6:44 am

Good Morning to one and all,    Always nice to have others you can  go to for input.  Yesterday I did what I've done so many times in the past ;  I messed-up my entire Flight Sim  with a download. [ I'm sure I'm the only one to do this  ;D  ]  I have two questions that perhaps some can help with :  #1 "   When files disappear  - - -  where do  THEY go?  I've searched high and low  and just can't find them.Is there a  BLACK HOLE in my PC they fall into ? ;D  ".      Question #2,      Is there a LIST of programs somewhere that would Guide us away from "helpful" ::)  stuff?  You know  - - - -like two hour mess-ups  ;D.       This program  [GAME XP] could be added to that list  ;D        Thanks for your time and help.    caveman

Hi Caveman. I've installed literally thousands of files of all types to all versions of FS/CFS over a period of almost 7 years. During this time I've only found about 3 downloads where the files were defective & these were immediately removed.

It will all depend on the methods you use to extract the zipfiles & install the contents. If you do this properly you will know exactly where all the files go as you placed them there yourself. Please ignore all advice/instructions to extract zipfiles direct to FS2002 or any other M$ sim. This is the most common cause of installation problems. Read the tutes posted here & at my Lair. These describe the best way of doing these things based on years of actually doing it. If still in doubt please don't be afraid to ask. We've all done these things ourselves at some time or other & someone here will usually be able to sort it out for you.

Sure do appreciate your help.   I'm one of those "GUYS" that if it can be done RIGHT,   I'll get it sooner or later ;D   Of course " later " means MUCH - - - - -MUCH   later.      [ I have never given up ]     Often I've heard "   Did it again - - huh ? "  ;D   Always keep a smile.          Thanks again,             caveman
