Space Saving

Postby G-EORGE » Tue Nov 15, 2005 5:05 pm

A number of the default fs aircraft, like the 182rg, the Extra and the Schweizer Sailplane I never use;  if I were to remove these from the aircraft folder (perhaps storing them on a CD), should this improve the performance of the simulator?  In other words,  is it worthwhile?

I ask because I am starting to see performance affected  when flying in heavy traffic areas (like EGLL); and it seems pointless having all these aircraft on the sim if they are just clogging up the memory.  I don't care if i lose any AI traffic for these aircraft
(Is there any anyway??)

generally speaking removal of default a/c would be a mistake. Many of the a/c downloaded to enhance your fs enjoyment ALIAS to configurations of the default planes. As in ... you download a single engine plane you enjoy and it uses the gauges , maybe even the panel from the mentioned 182rg. And will not work without those configurations.
the only slowing you should experience from the unused DEFAULT planes should be in the length of time it takes Fs to start and the length of time it takes to select or change planes.
I've got maybe 150-200 planes listed in my Fs2002.

Simple solution: turn AI desity down  deleteing default aircraft is NOT a good idea,

Deleting will not enhance your systems performance. The only "good" thing about it is that you free up some disk space.

I was interrested in the replies.      I took every default aircraft - except the Cessnas - off my FS2002.     Apparently, the program won't run without the Cessna default aircraft.      I now have 160 odd WWII aircraft on FS2002.       For me, the aliasing problem didn't arise - who wants a B-17 that looks exactly like a four-engined Cessna 182?       There are plenty of panels available on the net.      At a pinch, you might even produce your own.

I would never advise anyone to remove default files, including those aircraft. I don't know if you use the AI traffic but unless you installed a complete 3rd party set the sky will be empty. I think the AI traffic is the best part about FS2002.

PS. I see no advantage to removing them as they should not affect loading times or anything else. The sound of many 3rd party aircraft is also aliased to them & without them installed they won't appear on the selection menu. This is one of the main causes of many installation problems that people experience.

Hi,

You can put your own aircrafts in a map called "Hangar" outside FS and use only this single aircraft you want to fly at this moment.
So don't touch the default onces and let the AI fly their flightplan.
See what that gives for savings.
