Glass cockpit on networked computer

Postby WebbPA » Wed Apr 20, 2005 8:21 am

Does anyone have any experience with these?  I have a desktop and a laptop computer connected over a wireless 802.11g network, identical FS2002 installations, and I'd like to put a glass cockpit on the laptop.

I thought WideFS would do this but it is apparently only a communications program and requires additional software to display the gauges.

I'm looking at OpenGC  http://www.opengc.org/index.html  as my best bet - the price is right and the screenshots look pretty good.  The drawbacks are that it uses the X-Plane Nav Database, and it seems a little out of date and possibly unsupported.

After some additional research I found FreeFD - here is the home page but as you can see the old versions are not available for download and the new version will be available "someday"... http://freefd.homeunix.com/index.php

Since it's freeware I had no reservations about downloading it from a P2P network and it's way cool.  It took about about half the morning to configure FSUIPC and FreeFD but I now have a PFD and ND running on a networked laptop (I couldn't get the EICAS to work - have to wait for the new version) sitting next to my desktop box.

Don't you hate having to screw around with cockpit view to get a decent view of your approach?  My landing view is now nothing but scenery - all of the instruments are on the laptop.  If you have a laptop and a network give it a try.
