altimeter fluctuation in clouds

Hi all
I've noticed that when I fly a plane through thick clouds that the altimeter fluctuates quite wildly.   When I punch though the cloud level (either when ascending or descending) then all is fine.  It's only causing problems when I'm actually in the cloud and it's all white-out...

is this a know bug in FS2002?

Haven't tested many planes, but it seems to occur on the Meljet 737 at least

If it's a known bug, is there any fix?

One of the very basic things in aviation:
The most turbulent air is inside a cloud.

So no, it is not a bug.

And thats why where possible pilots avoid flying through clouds.

...and if you are a low-level GA, VFR pilot, you also avoid flying under towering cumulous/cumulonimbus clouds.... ...!
Treat clouds with great caution*... ...!

if I use a larger aircraft, eg 777 or 747, should the turbulence effect be less noticeable?

Yes, larger aircrafts have a larger mass = Larger inertia.
You will still feel the tubulence, but it will be a breeze compared to a Cessna in the same turbulence layer  ;D
