757 Questions

Postby YodaNYC » Tue Jul 20, 2004 5:57 pm

I have a couple of quick 757 operating questions.  I am very familiar with flying the 737 and now want to move to the larger bird for longer haul flights.

1. What is the correct flap configuration for takeoff?  I am used to flying the 737 for which I use 5 degrees.

2.  What would be the most efficient altitude adjustments when step climbing to FL390?  I am planning to fly from KSAN to KJFK and want the flight to be as realistic as possible.  I have already programmed the correct SID, STAR and waypoints but needed some assistance with the altitude.

Thanks!

I believe they use Flap 15 as standard (just as the 737 use Flap 5).

Flap limit speeds are 210 knots for flaps 15, 220 knots for flaps 5 and 240 knots for flaps 1, btw :)

And now to the hard part.
Since the FMC will generate the most optimum altitudes and you use the step to function to execute step climbs, it will be hard for anyone to know when to commence the flight level change. I have some sheets of the 757 perfomance, and this might be of interest to you, though it assumes your landing weight at 170.000lbs, but it's better than nothing I suppose :)

edit...the picture name first read 737fuelburn, but it's a typo from my side. It is 757 specs, just look at the range and wind data on the left colum, no 737 can fly more than 3000 nm, so sorry for the confusion, I have changed it now !

Or when I think of it, I'd be better off without the cash.
Ozzy has done enough carnage here  ;D

happy flying in the 757!

Thanks.  Any insights into FS NAV programming?  I know you use the FMC for your PMDG.

I just posted another question on the board that has been frustrating the $#@! out of me regarding programming airways.

Apparently I've had a long day today.  When I saw the topic of this thread I thought you had 757 questions (not questions about a 757).  I better get some rest!!   :)

regarding FS Nav, I don't know. I have only used it sparely. But I know that it is frustrating not to be able to type in airways.
Once I had to program a 2500nm route with over 40fixes including the departure and arrival routes - leg by leg. That's what you get when the navdatabase is not accurate in FS and the airways change names  ;D
