Another Newbie on FS2002

Postby Jason Gaudet » Wed May 12, 2004 10:49 pm

;DHello All.

I'm new to FS2002 and the community of Sim Flying. My only connection to aircraft is a near complete book Iam writing on the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan - BCATP in my area (Pennfield Ridge NB) and a near death flight into Cuba (both long stories).

I have a few question about FS2002... 1. where can I get a PBY Catalina and B-25 Mitchell. Both seem to be popular aircraft but difficult to find.

2. Any suggestion, forum on creating a fiction (well, it was real at one time) airport?

3. How do I log into Multi-Player?

Thanks for your help and interest!

Welcome to SimV. Glad to see an interest in the Catalina and B25. Best way to find what you want is to go to the main page and use the search feature. Otherwise just go to "downloads and choose from the 2002 military section, scrolling through the pages. ;D

The vintage planes can all be found in Vintage Downloads at http://www.simviation.com/fs2002vintage1.htm
For scenery well you could try looking in our scenery downloads at http://www.simviation.com/fs2002scenery1.htm (warning there are a LOT of pages) ;)
As for MP sessions, what kind of thing do you want to do? Flying with friends online, or just joining up with a group and pottering around?

Hi Jason. Try the FS2002 vintage section. I'm not sure there is late model of either. Some CFS2 aircraft will also work fine in FS2002 so look there too. Use the SimV search feature to narrow things down. The VB Planes PBY works well in CFS2 but won't display properly in 2K2. There's another PBY by Harry Follas that I haven't tried.

2. Any suggestion, forum on creating a fiction (well, it was real at one time) airport?

Check out the Scenery & Panel Design forum. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=scn
The most popular freeware design applications are Airport for Windows http://www.airportforwindows.com/
or FS Scenery Creator. http://fssc.avsim.net/
Both work on a similar principle so try them & see which suits you. I find FSSC easier to use.

3. How do I log into Multi-Player?

Sorry. I never played online so have no idea.

Multiplayer can be done many ways.

The way Microsoft would prefer you do it is to visit www.zone.com and fly in "the zone"...pretty self explanatory, but a total waste of time, IMO.

You can also fly online directly with friends using an IP game.  One person acts as host (and follows the prompts to host the session) and the others put his/her IP address in the window where it asks for it.  (www.ipchicken.com if you're not sure what your IP address is)

Then there's the joys known as live ATC.  Go to VATSIM.net, eskyworld.com, or my personal favorite, www.westcoastatc.com, and fly with live air traffic controllers using your mic and speakers.

Good luck and welcome to SimV!  If you've got any more questions, just ask.  The folks here are great!
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

There is a B-25 over at http://www.roychaffin.com/rcs-panels.html

It's a big download, but well worth it :)

Thanks for the info! ::)

Thanks Stratobat, I will download this B-25. But I haven't found much else in terms of other B-25s or PBY Catalinas.

I will stick with single player for now as I have crashed on landing with the last few flights. :P (I fly out of Shearwater, NS or Saint John, NB with a C-130 Hercules)

I will also be trying to re-create an airport (fictional) over the next few weeks, of the former airbase in Pennfield, trying to rebuild it to 1940s specs, which I have been able researched. Thanks again!

Hey Jason :) welcome to SimV-

[glb]WARNING- THIS WEBSITE MAY BECOME ADDICTIVE[/glb] ;D ;D

If you want a B-25 or Catalina, I would vote in this poll (both of which happen to be in!)
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=fs2002;action=display;num=1080916326

As for creating an airport, check out the AFCAD + TTOOLS forum
and also the Scenery Forums
hope this helps...
