For FS2002 don't use a higher version of FSUIPC than 2.974 (i.e., no 3.x). 2.974 is all you need for FS2002 and doesn't require registration.
Make sure you fully uninstall any 3.x by deleting modules\fsuipc.dll and fsuipc.ini.
