AI Helicoptors?

Postby raz » Fri Mar 05, 2004 1:05 am

If I created an AI flight plan for a helicoptor, would it fly right?  Would it take-off vertically or would it taxi to a runway and take-off that way.  Or would it make my computer combust?  Just curious.

Well, I've seen people do it, but never tried it.  From what they say, it would just taxi to a runway, take off like an airplane and then fly like one as well.  There isn't really a good method for AI helos as of yet.  Guess we'll have to wait for 2006 for that one . . . ;)

EB is right, AI Helos act like regular AI aircraft

Hi Raz,

Maybe the helo ai flight dynamics wouldnt allow this, but how about using afcad to 1) create a second airport over an existing one (the same method used to force the use of alternate runways or 'assigned parking') or 2)new airports on landable rooftops or parking lots, with their own parking and a very short runway, i.e. helo pad

Just a thought.

Cheers,
Dave

Hmmm, might have to adopt this for my own weekend project.....

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Thanks guys, that's what I figured.  Dave3cu, your idea might be over my head, but thanks for the idea.  Out of curiosity though, how would I create the double airport?  I'd kind of like to see aircraft using multiple runways.  Thanks - Raz

Hi Raz,

A couple of ways to use multiple runways, both explained in AFCad's excellent help file.

The easiest is (in AFCad) to close one runway to landing and close the other to take-off, doesnt require a second airport overlay. Of course would probably work best with parallel runways, rather than crossing  :)

Cheers,
Dave

Hey Dave.  I apologize for my ignorance, but can you guide me through the process for KORD?  I've got all the necessary utilities, I'm just not 100% sure how I should go about the process.  Thanks - Raz

Oops, never mind.  Maybe I should learn to read the instructions first huh?  Thanks though.
