Trim

Postby jrpilot » Tue Jan 20, 2004 7:49 pm

Hello,

How come my aircrafts wont trim with my autopilot.

I turn the trim just a little bit but then it goes back and when I'm flying with or into the wind my aircraft is like 10 degrees nose off?

What could I do?

Umm..do you mean "nose off" HORIZONTALY or VERTICALLY?
The heading and actual ground track will not be the same if you're encountering crosswind, the autopilot will automaticly make corrections for you.

What type of aircraft are you flying, at what speed and what altitide? In order to remain level you may have to maintain a positive nose pitch if you are at low speed or near the maximum for your airplane operational altitude (due to thin air). Of course both parameters are impacted by your airplane's performance. If you have engaged the autopilot it configures your airplane to fly level under circumstances of very high altitude or low speed by pitching nose-up. Changing the trim manually you actually spoil this configuration and the autopilot fixes it again. You can check that you fly level (and not climbing) at your altimeter and vertical speed indicator.
